KINDER SCOUT 636

Thursday again.

I've been leaving my blog til very late recently, and as a consequence have made it short and not said what i'd maybe wanted to. Always forget what i'd like to say anyway...
So, starting with things done this week; finished installing a typographic piece at PSL, which is quickly becoming covered with grass. Painted the names of 18 vegetables on an 8ft by 8ft bit of wood and drilled it into a wall. Had a full band practice. Went to see Corsano/Flower duo again, which was amazing again. Drank some wine. Blah blah blah...

My friend Katty pointed me in the direction of David Lynch's Interview Project, which I then proceeded to watch in its entirety; its fascinating. Click on the link to find out, but basically a film crew took a road trip around the US and interviewed people they happened to pass by on the road or in a town, or wherever. They then got them to talk about themselves a little. Each interview lasts only a few minutes and has a simple but quite effective soundtrack. They're putting more interviews up every three days I think, as the road trip is still going on and they're editing it on the road as it were (again, I think this is the case, but don't take my word for it). Lynch does the introduction for each interview, summing up each interviewee in one sentence, which is interesting in its own right.

Writing this blog is actually making me realise how little I have to say, and how little i'm actually taking on board throughout the week. Maybe I am seeing things i like, but I don't really think i'm doing enough research really. Saw some paintings today I really liked an it made me really want to just draw, so that was good, but also weird. Maybe I just clam up when it comes to blog-time. I suppose i'm always thinking - probably too much. This weekend i'm planning to do a lot of drawing and painting and making things from wood.

For our Newcastle show in a few weeks i'm making some drawings based on a passage from the book 'Peter Camenzind' by Herman Hesse. These are some that i've been doing, they need working on, but feels like an ok start...

I'm also making some boxes in which I am going to collect darkness, a large painting of a mountain and four faux-livres. Possibly some small sculptures based on abstract paper shapes.

My friend Danny played this Richard Thompson song at a garden gig at the weekend and it stuck in my head. Though i've heard it many times before, I suddenly realised I really like it...

Enough. I have nothing interesting to say.
